Proposals are lightweight contracts sent by a Retailer that proposes which of your products they wish to sell along with the terms for the partnership. You will have a chance to negotiate these terms, meaning they are not final until you review and approve the proposal.
Proposal Overview
There are three key parts to a proposal:
-
Products & commission: Retailers can send proposals for any product Suppliers have listed on Canal. They are recommended to use Supplier's default commission, however, Retailers do have the ability to propose a new commission.
-
Shipping: Canal recommends selecting "Supplier's shipping rate" which will use the default settings of the your store. If this is not an option, we recommend "Fixed rate per order" where the average rate is ~$6.
-
Promotional details: In this section, the Retailer will share details of how, when, and where they plan to sell these products.
Proposal Workflow
- Suppliers receive an email notification when a Retailer sends a product proposal. You can Approve, Counter, or Decline this proposal.
- If you have any feedback on the proposal, select "Counter" and this will give you the ability to suggest a different commission, add or remove products, or change shipping terms. The Retailer will be notified via email where Retailers and Suppliers can further communicate to reach a conclusion.
- After both parties agree on the terms of the relationship, Retailers are required to make the updates to the proposal and resend to Suppliers for review.
- Once you accept the proposal, the Retailer can add the agreed upon products to their store and start selling!
A note on commissions
We recommend Suppliers and Retailers set commission higher than 15%. At 15% Suppliers and Retailers are more likely to be profitable with Canal after fees.
