In this guide, you'll learn how to create a product that is available to Rokt Catalog partners without appearing on your direct-to-consumer (DTC) site. Use the option that matches how you want to create the product in Shopify.
Before you start
Make sure the Rokt Catalog for Brands sales channel is available in your Shopify admin. To keep the product off your DTC site, keep it in Draft while you choose publishing channels, publish it only to Rokt Catalog for Brands, and then set it to Active.
Some partner sites require a valid barcode or Universal Product Code (UPC) before products can go live. If the product has variants, review the stock keeping unit (SKU), barcode, and UPC for each variant.
Option 1: Duplicate an existing product
Use this option if the product exclusive to Rokt Catalog is the same physical item as a product you already sell or uses the same fulfillment process.
- Go to Products in Shopify, and open the product you want to duplicate.
- Select Duplicate.
- If your team uses a naming convention, add it to the product title. Example: Coffee Mug (Rokt Exclusive).
- In Product status, select Draft. This keeps the duplicate from publishing to the same channels as the original product while you set it up.
- Select the product details you want to copy, and then select Duplicate product.
- Review the SKU for each variant. Keep the same SKU only if the product should be fulfilled the same way as the original product. Use a new SKU if the product has different packaging, bundle contents, quantity, or fulfillment requirements.
- Review the Barcode or UPC for each variant. If another Rokt Catalog variant already uses the same UPC, the duplicate can be blocked from going live.
- Set the Price and Compare-at price, if applicable.
- In the Publishing section, select only Rokt Catalog for Brands. Deselect any channel where the product should not appear, including your DTC storefront.
- Set the product status to Active.
- Save the product.
Option 2: Create a new Rokt Catalog-exclusive product
Use this option if the product should exist only for Rokt Catalog or if it needs a different SKU, barcode, packaging, bundle, variant configuration, or fulfillment setup.
- Go to Products > Add product in Shopify.
- If your team uses a naming convention, add it to the product title. Example: Silk Scrunchie Bundle (Rokt Exclusive).
- Set the product status to Draft while you add details and confirm publishing channels.
- Add a product description, images, and any relevant variants, such as size, color, or quantity.
- Set the SKU and Barcode or UPC in the Inventory section. For products with variants, review these fields for each variant.
- Set the Price and Compare-at price, if applicable.
- In the Publishing section, select only Rokt Catalog for Brands. Deselect any channel where the product should not appear, including your DTC storefront.
- Set the product status to Active and save the product.
Confirm product availability
After you save the product, wait for it to sync into Rokt Catalog. When the setup is complete, the product appears in Rokt Catalog and remains unpublished anywhere it should stay hidden.
- Confirm that the product appears in Rokt Catalog with the expected title, SKU, barcode or UPC, pricing, images, and variants.
- Confirm that the product is published to Rokt Catalog for Brands in Shopify.
- Confirm that the product is not published to your DTC storefront or any other channel where it should remain hidden.
- If partners can't see the product in Rokt Catalog, make sure the product is listed in Rokt Catalog. If it still doesn't appear, contact Rokt Catalog Support.
