This guide walks you through the image QA process for Nordstrom listings in the Rokt Catalog QA tool. Images are the most visible part of the product experience, and image errors are one of the most common reasons products get rejected. In this guide, you'll learn how to access the QA tool, transform images to meet Nordstrom's specifications, assign them to variants, and set the correct display order.
Before you start
Make sure you have access to the Rokt Catalog App and that your products have been synced from Shopify.
You can review Nordstrom's full image requirements in their vendor asset documentation.
Access the QA tool
- Open the Rokt Catalog App.
- Select Nordstrom from the Partners tab on the left.
- Scroll down to the products section and click QA products in the top-right corner.
Hero image requirements
Each color variant needs its own hero image — the first image in the set — that accurately represents that variant. Your hero images must meet these requirements:
- One hero image per color variant.
- The hero image shows only one color variant.
- The background is plain, neutral, and light-colored (white, light grey, etc.).
- No lifestyle backgrounds on the hero image.
- No text, badges, logos, or overlays on the hero image.
Image specifications
All images must conform to these specifications:
- Aspect ratio: 2:3
- Preferred size: 2640 × 4048 px
- Minimum size: 1300 × 2000 px
Transform images
The QA tool includes built-in transformation tools to help you get your images to spec. You can apply transformations individually or in bulk.
Individual transformations
To edit a single image, hover over it and click the pen icon in the upper-right corner. Choose the transformation you want, then click Apply.
Bulk transformations
To transform multiple images at once, hover over each image and click the checkbox in the top-left corner, or click Select all above the image carousel. Then choose a transformation to apply to all selected images.
Available transformations
| Transformation | What it does |
|---|---|
| Resize | Crops and scales the image to Nordstrom's required size and pixel count. |
| Pad | Adds padding around the image to match Nordstrom's required size. The default color is Nordstrom's preferred grey — click the grey box to open the color picker. |
| Remove Background | Removes the background from a product image. Use this with Background Color to create a compliant image. |
| Background Color | Adds a solid background color to a product image. |
| Manual Crop | Lets you crop an image to the correct aspect ratio while keeping the product in frame. Only available for individual transformations, and you need to follow it with a Resize to meet pixel requirements. |
Troubleshooting transformations
If an image shows an error during transformation, click Retry in the center of the image. You can also save your changes and reapply the transformation using the bulk or individual editor. Some transformations may need to be applied more than once.
Assign images to variants
- Once your transformations are complete, select the images that belong to a specific variant. Hover over each image and click the checkbox in the top-right corner, or click Select all above the carousel.
- Click the Assign to variants button at the top of the image carousel.
- Select the variants you want to connect these images to. You can select multiple variants grouped by color, size, or all variants.
For example, assign all images of the denim product to the denim variant, all images of the chocolate product to the chocolate variant, and so on.
Order images within variants
- Scroll down to the Order Variant Images section.
- Drag and drop each image into the correct display order for each variant.
- To make this faster, group variants by size or color using the grouping options at the top of the section.
Tips and shortcuts
- Understanding border colors: A red border means the image does not meet Nordstrom's pixel or aspect ratio requirements. A green border means it meets pixel and aspect ratio requirements — but not necessarily all image requirements.
- Resetting images: Hover over an image and click the Reset icon (below the trash icon) to revert it to its original state. To reset all images at once, use the Reset icon in the top-right of the image carousel. This is sometimes needed after uploading new images to the Shopify listing.
- Uploading additional images: Click the + Upload icon at the top of the image carousel (next to the reset icon on the right side) to add images not included in Shopify but intended for Nordstrom.
- Removing assigned images: Hover over an image in the Order Variant Images section and click the X to remove it from that variant grouping. This does not delete the image entirely. To remove all assigned images, click Clear Images in the top-right of the section.
