Inventory allocation lets you control how much stock is available to retail partners through Rokt Catalog. You set a monthly cap — your Catalog monthly allocation — at the variant level, and Rokt Catalog exposes the lower of that cap or your actual on-hand inventory to partners. This value is your Catalog availability.
As shoppers place orders, Catalog availability decreases in real time. The allocation resets automatically at the start of each month.
This feature can be used for all variants, or on a case by case basis.
How to Set Catalog Inventory Allocation
How Catalog availability is calculated
Rokt Catalog always uses the lower value between your on-hand inventory and your monthly allocation:
- Inventory is lower than the allocation: You have 8 units on hand and a monthly allocation of 10. Partners see 8 units, since availability is capped at your current stock.
- Allocation is lower than inventory: You have 13 units on hand and a monthly allocation of 10. Partners see 10 units, since the allocation caps what's exposed.
This is designed to prevent overselling.
When to use allocation
You can apply a monthly allocation to every variant or only to specific ones. Common use cases include:
- Reserving a portion of stock for direct sales.
- Capping units available through partner channels for limited-supply products.
- Controlling quantity when testing a new retail partner.
If you don't set an allocation, partners see your full available inventory by default.
