This guide covers the attribute QA process for Nordstrom listings in the Rokt Catalog QA tool. Our ProductAI pulls information from your store's product detail page (PDP) and fills in the relevant attributes, but you need to review the AI-generated data for accuracy before submission. In this guide, you'll learn how to review top-level attributes, variant-level attributes, and the specific requirements for colors, sizes, UPCs, and weight.
All required fields are marked with an asterisk (*) and must be filled out.
Before you start
Make sure you've already accessed the QA tool for your Nordstrom products. If you haven't, see Reviewing product images for Nordstrom for instructions on getting started.
Review top-level attributes
Top-level attributes appear at the top of the Attributes tab in the QA tool. These apply to all variants in the product.
By default, this section shows recommended and required fields. Click the Optional checkbox to view additional attributes that can help your product appear in advanced searches.
Category
Verify that the Category and Nordstrom Product Taxonomy (NPT) accurately reflect the product type. An incorrect category can cause your product to appear in the wrong search results or get rejected.
Product title
Do not include the brand name, color, or size in the title unless they're required for differentiation. Nordstrom pulls these from other fields, so including them in the title creates duplication.
Copy details and care (features)
When writing or reviewing product features, follow this suggested order of information where applicable:
- Material or ingredients breakdown
- Sizing or volume details (reference specific variant measurements if needed, e.g., Small vs. Large)
- Model info (measurements, wearing size)
- Care or usage instructions
- Selling features (details about the product)
- Origin (e.g., "Made in the USA")
Use your best judgment on what matters most to the end customer. Not every product needs all of these bullets.
Review variant-level attributes
Variant-level attributes appear in a table at the bottom of the Attributes tab. These fields can be customized per variant, and fields marked with an asterisk (*) are required.
Color attribute requirements
Each variant must include three color fields: Color Description (customer-facing), Color Family, and NRF Color Code. You need to maintain a strict 1:1 mapping between Color Description and NRF Color Code.
Exception: Single-variant beauty, home, or food items that do not vary in appearance should use Color Description = None, Color Family = None, and NRF Color Code = 000.
How Variants Must Be Differentiated
Each variant must have a unique combination of Color Description and Size.
Same color, different sizes
If variants share the same Color Description (for example, “Buttermilk”), each one must have a different Size.
Example:
- Buttermilk / XS
- Buttermilk / S
- Buttermilk / M
Same size, different colors
If variants share the same Size (for example, “Small”), each one must have a different Color Description.
Example:
- Buttermilk / Small
- Bright Yellow / Small
- Vibrant Yellow / Small
Same Color Family and same Size
If variants share both the same Color Family and Size, you must still use unique Color Descriptions to differentiate them.
Example:
- Color Family: Yellow / Size: Small / Color Description: Buttermilk
- Color Family: Yellow / Size: Small / Color Description: Bright Yellow
- Color Family: Yellow / Size: Small / Color Description: Vibrant Yellow
NRF Color Codes
Each Color Description must consistently use its assigned NRF Code. A single Color Description should not appear with multiple NRF codes, and each NRF code should map to only one Color Description. Our ProductAI generally fills this field accurately using the Color Family and Description.
For the full list of NRF codes, see Merging products for Nordstrom (appendix).
Size requirements
- Apparel items must always include a size.
- If an item comes in only one size, use One Size.
UPC requirements
Invalid UPCs are one of the most common reasons for product rejection, so double-check every variant.
- Each variant must have a valid UPC.
- Valid UPCs are 12 or 13 digits and GS1 compliant.
Weight requirements
If you include weight, you must include both the weight value and the unit of measure. Submitting one without the other causes a rejection.
We recommend leaving both fields empty rather than submitting incomplete weight data.
