Proposals are lightweight contracts sent by a Partner that specify which of your products they want to sell, along with the terms for the partnership. You have a chance to negotiate these terms, meaning they are not final until you review and approve the proposal.
Proposal overview
There are three key parts to a proposal:
- Products and commission: Partners can send proposals for any product you have listed on Catalog. They are encouraged to use your default commission, but they have the ability to propose a different rate.
- Shipping: Catalog recommends selecting "Brand's shipping rate," which uses the default settings of your store. If this is not an option, we recommend "Fixed rate per order." Set a rate that reflects your actual per-order shipping costs, which you can update at any time under Settings > Selling preferences.
- Promotional details: In this section, the Partner shares details of how, when, and where they plan to sell your products.
Proposal workflow
- You receive an email notification when a Partner sends a product proposal. You can approve, counter, or decline the proposal.
- If you have feedback, select Counter to suggest a different commission, add or remove products, or change shipping terms. The Partner is notified via email, and both sides can communicate further to reach an agreement.
- After both parties agree on terms, Partners make the updates to the proposal and resend it to you for review.
- Once you accept the proposal, the Partner can add the agreed-upon products to their store and start selling.
A note on commissions
We recommend Brands and Partners set commission higher than 15%. At 15%, both Brands and Partners are more likely to be profitable with Catalog after fees.
